ORDER:
The petitioner submitted application to the respondents forsanction of freedom fighters’ pension. The 2[nd] respondentaddressed a letter to the petitioner on 06.01.2005 requesting himto furnish the documents mentioned therein. Accordingly, thepetitioner furnished the relevant documents. The grievance of thepetitioner is that though more than four years have lapsed, therespondents have not taken any further steps.
Heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and thelearned counsel for the respondents.
The process of the sanction of freedom fighters’ pension thatstarted few decades ago, is still on, with no possibility of itsreaching finality in the near future. Scores of cases are pending. Matters of this nature ought not to be pending for such a longtime. In many cases, the applicants are leaving this world onaccount of old age. No useful purpose would be served, ifultimately it is found that they were eligible for sanction of thepension.
It may be true that the Government is flooded withapplications, genuine as well as bogus. Though it would take quitesome time for processing the application, it should be ensured thatthe genuine applicant is not denied honour and benefit.
Hence, the writ petition is disposed of, directing therespondents to complete the processing of the application submitted by the petitioner, within a period of three (3) monthsfrom the date of receipt of a copy of this order. There shall be noorder as to costs.
