O R D E R:
The petitioner alleges that she is being harassed and required to attend thepolice station indiscriminately, though no complaint is made against her, much lessany case is registered.
Heard learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Government Pleaderfor Home.
It hardly needs any emphasis that a citizen, particularly woman, cannot berequired to attend the police station, except where it is needed during the course ofinvestigation into a complaint, or a crime registered in the police station. Requiringthe people to attend the police station, in the absence of such complaints or cases, amounts to interference with the rights of the individuals.
Hence, the writ petition is disposed of, directing that the respondent shall notrequire the petitioner to attend the police station, or otherwise harass her, exceptwhere a specific complaint is made against her and a case is registered. There shallbe no order as to costs.
