ORDER:
The petitioner submitted an application on17.01.2005 for sanction of freedom fighters’ pension. It isstated that his application was processed by the StateGovernment and that the Principal Secretary, RevenueDepartment vide memo dated 24.08.2007 directed he 3[rd]respondent herein to take further steps. The grievance ofthe petitioner is that though more than 4 years haveelapsed, the respondents have not taken any steps.
Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and thelearned counsel for the respondents.
The process of the sanction of freedom fighters’pension that started few decades ago, is still on, with nopossibility of its reaching finality in the near future. Scoresof cases are pending. Matters of this nature ought not tobe pending for such a long time. In many cases, theapplicants are leaving this world on account of old age. No useful purpose would be served, if ultimately it is foundthat they were eligible for sanction of the pension.
It may be true that the Government is flooded withapplications, genuine as well as bogus. Though it wouldtake quite some time for processing the application, itshould be ensured that the genuine applicant is notdenied honour and benefit.
Hence, the writ petition is disposed of, directing therespondents to complete the processing of the applicationsubmitted by the petitioner, within a period of three (3)months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. There shall be no order as to costs.
