1. The District Magistrate of South 24 Parganas has passed an order dated 29th July, 2026 in compliance with an order of this Court passed earlier on 22nd June, 2026 in WPA No. 9361 of 2026.

2. The District Magistrate in the said order while considering the grievance of the petitioners in WPA No. 9361 of 2026 decided that electricity connection is to be provided to the petitioner in compliance with necessary formalities and depositing requisite charges by the petitioner there.

3. It appears from record that before the date of hearing, before the District Magistrate as above, the present petitioners lodged a complaint letter as to granting high tension electricity supply to the petitioners in the said writ petition, who are the respondent no. 8 in the present writ petition, vide their letter dated 7th July, 2026.

4. The present writ petition has been filed by those applicants whose grievance is two folds here. Firstly, that their application filed earlier to the hearing conducted by the District Magistrate was never considered by the District Magistrate. Secondly, that the proposed high tension line contemplated to be installed at the business of the respondent no. 8, is dangerous for the life of the local people.

5. The respondent authority/WBSEDCL has submitted a report in the instant writ petition, which is on record.

6. On perusal of the same, it transpires that owing to the the dispute in the locality with regard to grant of high tension line at the business of the respondent no. 8, the respondent electricity authority has modified their policy and instead of high tension line over the newly constructed poles, decision has been taken for providing low tension Aerial Bundled Cable through the poles already existing in the locality.

7. Upon hearing the submissions of the learned respective advocates for the parties, it appears that as regards the decision of the respondent authority regarding providing electricity connection to the respondent no. 8 through a low tension Aerial Bundled Cable and over the already existing poles, none of the parties raise any dispute or objection, including respondent no. 8, provided the strength of connection in terms of voltage remains appropriate.

8. Similar is with regard to the decision taken by the respondent authority for affecting connection through the alternate route map as enclosed by the said respondent in the report furnished by it in this Court.

9. It is also worth nothing that, in the said report, the respondent authority has asserted that no overhead line will be drawn crossing over any residential house for the purpose of effecting new service connection.

10. Let therefore this writ petition be disposed of by directing the respondent authority/WBSEDCL to immediately proceed with the works of electricity connection as per their alternate route map and proposal as enumerated in the report submitted in Court vide affidavit dated 24th August, 2026, subject to fulfilment of all formalities by the present respondent no. 8/applicant before it, and execute the work positively within a period of two weeks after communication of this order by the parties.

11. In view of the change in circumstances as discussed above, the order passed by the District Magistrate dated 29th July, 2026 becomes inconsequential and is hereby set aside.

12. With the aforesaid observations and directions, WPA No. 22112 of 2026 is disposed of.

13. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties upon compliance with all requisite formalities.
