1. Present petition has been preferred under Section 29A (4) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 (hereinafter the “act”) on behalf of the petitioner-claimant.

2. Learned Counsel for the petitioner submits that the mandate of the learned Arbitral Tribunal expired on 30.09.2026. It is further submitted that award in the present arbitration has been reserved. However, as connected arbitration is at the stage of final arguments which is to be pronounced with the present arbitration, extension of six months or till 30.03.2027 is prayed.

3. Issue notice. Learned Counsel for the respondent accepts notice and submits that he has no objection if the extension as sought is allowed.

Limited v. Berger Paints India Limited, NC:2024 INSC 686, has held that an application under Section 29A(4) of the Act is maintainable even after expiry of the twelve-month or extended six-month period. The Court has further held that such extension may be granted only upon sufficient cause being shown.

5. In the present case, the learned Arbitral Tribunal has already reserved the award. The prayer for extension of the mandate has arisen only on account of the pendency of a connected arbitration proceeding, which is presently at an advanced and final stage.

6. Accordingly, the mandate is extended by six months i.e. from 30.09.2026 to 30.03.2027.

7. Accordingly, present petition is allowed. VINOD KUMAR, J OCTOBER 7, 2026/ss This is a digitally signed order.
