ORDER

19.09.2026

1. Petitioners are the students of Post Graduate Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu and are presently pursuing their studies in the 9th Semester, Session 2026-27. During their academic course, the petitioners appeared for their 8th Semester examination, in which they were unable to clear one of the subjects and, being aggrieved of the declaration of the result with regard to the relevant subject, they have sought revaluation of their result in accordance with the rules prescribed by the University of Jammu.

2. The application for revaluation was pending consideration before the competent authority and the result of the same has not yet been declared. It is submitted that the petitioners have also furnished an undertaking that in case they do not qualify the semester, their admission be cancelled.

3. That despite the fact that the result of revaluation has not yet been declared, respondent No. 5, Head of the Department, Post Graduate Department of Chemistry, has issued communications stating that since the petitioners were required to submit the result of B.Sc. 4th Year (8th Semester) within 45 days and the said period is over and they have failed to submit their result, they WP(C) No. 3000/2026

have been directed to submit the result before 16th September, failing which, their admission would be cancelled.

4. It is submitted that cancellation of admission of the petitioners before the result of revaluation is declared would cause prejudice to their academic career. The petitioners are studying in the Post Graduate course and, if their admission is cancelled at this stage, it would cause irreparable harm and injury to them.

5. Learned counsel for the petitioners, therefore, submits that the petitioners only seek a reasonable opportunity for their revaluation result to be declared, and in the meantime, seeks a direction to the respondents for extension of time for continuation in their semester in the academic course till their result of revaluation is declared and also to continue their studies till the result of revaluation is declared.

6. Keeping in view the aforesaid facts and circumstances, the petition is disposed of at the threshold by directing the respondents to consider the representation of the petitioners seeking extension of time for submission of their previous examination result/qualification documents till the result of their revaluation is declared. Till such time the representation of the petitioners is decided and the result of revaluation is declared, no coercive action qua the petitioners be taken.

7. The writ petition is disposed of in the manner indicated hereinabove.
