ORDER

20.05.2026

1. Petitioner, who is a serving Sub-Inspector in Police, has approached this Court seeking direction to the official respondents to provide adequate and sufficient protection/security to the petitioner and his family members, in order to safeguard their life, liberty, and property from the threats, intimidation, and harassment allegedly being extended by the private respondents and their associates.

2. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that respondent Nos. 6 and 7, being sub-contractors of VIKRAN Engineering Company Ltd, had undertaken the work of installation of electric poles and cables for transmission lines to three hamlets/mohallas of village Lalpora, Lolab, which include Fratti Mohalla as well; that, while carrying out the said work, they caused damage to the petitioner’s high-density orchard by installing electric poles therein; that on raising a protest, a criminal case was registered against the petitioner, however, no action was taken by the

local police on the complaint lodged by the petitioner. It is also submitted that the petitioner even approached the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, seeking redressal of his grievance, but no action was taken thereon.

3. After hearing learned counsel for the petitioner, and in the facts and circumstances of the case, this Court deems it proper to dispose of the present petition at this stage with a direction to the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, to look into the matter, raised by the petitioner, who is a serving Sub-Inspector, particularly with regard to the sense of insecurity faced by him and his family, as well as the safety of his property, and to take appropriate action, in accordance with law.

4. The petition is, accordingly, disposed of, on the above lines.
