1. Apprehending threat to their life and liberty, the petitioners have filed the present petition with a prayer to direct the official respondents to protect their life and liberty from respondents No. 4 to 12.
2. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both petitioners are major, petitioner No.1 was born on 01.04.2005 and petitioner No.2 on 12.02.2003. Petitioner No. 1 was married with respondent No. 4, but due to matrimonial discord, she started residing separately from him. Later, both petitioners fell in love with each other and are in live-in relationship for the last 03 months. Respondents Nos. 4 to 12 (in-laws and relatives of petitioner No. 1) were unhappy with the relationship and were extending threats to eliminate the petitioners. 3. Notice of motion.
4. Mr. Kunwarbir Singh, AAG Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the official respondents.
5. Heard.
6. Life and liberty of petitioners has to be protected irrespective of the fact that their relationship does not have approval of society.
7. Without commenting on the validity of relationship of the petitioners, the petition is disposed of with a direction to the official respondents to decide representation dated 31.08.2026 (Annexure P-4) within a period of 01 month. In case, it is found that there is a genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners, necessary steps as per law be taken at the earliest, so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners.
8. However, this order shall neither validate the live-in- status between the petitioners nor shall have any bearing on any civil or criminal action, initiated or to be initiated against them.
