ORDER

A family card with the petitioners' names was issued showing the name of the first petitioner's mother-in-law as the head of the family. Owing to a matrimonial dispute with the fifth respondent, the first petitioner and her minor children, i.e., the second and third petitioners herein, are living separately at the address mentioned in the cause title. In these circumstances, after applying for the deletion of their names from the original family card and seeking a fresh family card, the petitioners have approached this Court.

2. Mr.S.Iniyan Karthik, learned Government Advocate, accepts notice for the first to third respondents. He submits that the family card issued from Sivagangai has been attached to Chennai South and that the request for deletion has to be made to the Assistant Commissioner of the Civil Supplies Corporation, Chennai South Zone, Chennai.

3. In view of this submission, the Assistant Commissioner of the Civil Supplies Corporation, Chennai South Zone, Chennai, is suo motu impleaded as the sixth respondent in the Writ Petition. This order shall be issued after carrying out the amendments.

WP(MD) No. 29896 of 2026

4. Learned Government Advocate for the first to third respondents also adds that the normal procedure is for an OTP to be sent to the head of the family if a request for deletion was to be made.

5. Considering the above submissions and the facts and circumstances, this Writ Petition is disposed of on the following terms:

i. The petitioners are permitted to submit an application to the sixth respondent seeking deletion of their names from the family card issued in the name of the fourth respondent/Meenakshi. The said application shall be processed without insisting on the One Time Password (OTP).

ii. After the application for deletion is decided, the petitioners' request for a separate family card shall be decided.
