ORDER

This Writ Petition has been filed for the following reliefs: “directing the respondents to pay a sum of Rs. 20,00,000/- as compensation to the petitioners for the electrocution death of their mother Muniamma by considering their representation dated 10.06.2026 within time frame.”

2. The petitioners would submit that, on 11.05.2010, their mother, Muniyamma, while returning home after grazing two cows, came into contact with a live electric wire and died due to electrocution. In this regard, a case was registered in Crime No.98 of 2010 on 12.10.2010 on the file of the Kelamangalam Police Station, and the post-mortem report confirmed that the death was due to electric shock and hypovolemia.

3. The petitioners would submit that the accident occurred due to the negligent maintenance of the overhead electric lines and the failure of the respondents to undertake periodic inspections and necessary safety measures.

4. The petitioner would further submit that, despite submitting representations dated 20.10.2025 and 10.06.2026, seeking compensation for the loss suffered by the petitioners, the respondents have not taken any action to date. Hence, the present Writ Petition.

5. Heard the learned counsel on either side and perused the records.

6. Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and the relief sought for by the petitioners, this Court without going into the merits of the case, directs the respondents to consider and pass appropriate orders on the petitioners’ representation dated 10.06.2026, on merits and in accordance with law within a period of 4 weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

7. Accordingly, this writ petition is disposed of. No costs. 13-10-2026 Index: Yes/No Speaking/Non-speaking order Neutral Citation: Yes/No SHR
