ORDER

The petitioner is a pensioner, covered under the New Health Insurance Scheme. He has suffered certain ailments and undergone treatment in a network hospital. However, he was not provided cashless treatment as per the

WP(MD) No. 28748 of 2026 scheme. Therefore, he has submitted a representation and also filed this writ petition seeking a writ of mandamus to the respondent-Insurance Company to reimburse the medical expenses incurred by him.

2. Mr.I.Robert Chandra Kumar, learned Standing Counsel, who takes notice for the 7th respondent-Insurance Company, submits that the petitioner has not produced his ID card for his enrollment in the New Health Insurance Scheme and therefore, he was not provided with cashless treatment.

3. Mr.Mohammed Mohideen, learned counsel, who takes notice for the respondents 4 and 6-Madurai Corporation, submits that the claim of the petitioner has been forwarded to the Insurance Company for necessary action.

4. This Court considered the rival submissions made.

5. Admittedly, the petitioner served in the Madurai Corporation and retired from service. He is covered under the New Health Insurance Scheme. However, it appears that he has not produced his ID card at the time of taking treatment. The petitioner has undergone treatment for an approved disease in a network hospital and therefore, he is entitled for reimbursement of medical expenses incurred by him. However, the same can be considered by the District Level Empowered Committee.
