ORDER

This Writ Petition is filed to direct the respondents 5 to 6 to consider the petitioner's representation dated 09.09.2026 for providing adequate police protection for connection with Maha Kumbabhishekam of

Arulmigu Sri Selva Muthu Mariamman temple, situated at Uchapatti Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee Rehabilitation Camp, Thirumangalam Taluk, Madurai District, on 17.09.2026 between 09.30 a.m and 10.30 a.m.

2. The petitioner filed this petition seeking police protection. Pursuant to the order passed by this Court, the Revenue Authorities, including the Tahsildar, were directed to submit a report. The learned Additional Government Pleader submitted a report received from the Tahsildar, which reveals that there are two temples, one belonging to the Hindu community and the other belonging to the Christian community.

3. Though both temples are long-standing temples, the petitioner’s group has recently constructed another temple, thereby creating a dispute. Therefore, the Tahsildar objected to proceed further with the construction, stating that the construction was illegal and had been carried out without obtaining the requisite permission.

4. This Court directed the Tahsildar to appear before this Court. In the afternoon session, the Tahsildar, Tirumangalam, appeared before this Court. On enquiry, the Tahsildar submitted that the Kumbabhishekam festival is scheduled to be conducted on 17.09.2026 in the existing Arulmigu Sri Selva Muthu Mariamman Temple. She further submitted that the same group is attempting to construct another temple in the name of

Selva Muthu Mariamman Temple at the said place. Therefore, in order to conduct the festival peacefully, the third respondent is directed to convene a peace committee meeting tomorrow (i.e. 16.09.2026) at 11.00 a.m. at her office. The petitioner is directed to appear before the Tahsildar. If there are any rival parties, they shall also be heard, and a conclusion shall be arrived at after considering the objections raised by all concerned.

5. Once the above process is completed, if there is no impediment, the petitioner may proceed with the Kumbabhishekam festival and the respondents 5 and 6 are directed to provide adequate police protection for the conduct of the festival without any cost.

6. With the above directions, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. 15.09.2026 LS To
