ORDER

Arraying the Sub Registrar and the Village Administrative Officer as parties, the petitioner had applied for a direction to consider the representation for correction of an entry in the Death Certificate. The Writ Petition was disposed of with positive direction on 21.04.2026. This Contempt Petition relates thereto.

2. Appearing on behalf of the respondents, Mr.R.Parthiban, learned Special Government Pleader points out that the order directs the Sub Registrar to make the correction, whereas the Sub Registrar is not empowered under the Tamil Nadu Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2000.

3. As submitted by learned Special Government Pleader, the Tahsildar is empowered under said Rules and not Sub Registrar. In these circumstances, the conclusion of wilful disobedience cannot be drawn. In order to redress the grievance, however, it is open to the petitioner to apply to the Tahsildar for correction in terms of Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, read with Rules framed thereunder. In case appropriate action is not taken, the petitioner may initiate appropriate legal proceedings. __________
