ORDER
This writ petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondents to issue patta in the name of the petitioner and his siblings in respect of the lands comprised in Survey Nos.549/2 and 549/3, situated at Kanavaiputhur Village, Kadayampatti Taluk, Salem District, based on their long-standing possession and enjoyment of the properties, and to consider the petitioner's representation dated 15.07.2026 within a stipulated time.
2. The case of the petitioner is that he is a senior citizen aged about 76 years and is engaged in agricultural activities. According to him, he and his siblings have been in continuous possession and enjoyment of the lands comprised in Survey Nos.549/2 and 549/3 for more than 50 years, after the demise of their father. The petitioner states that the lands originally belonged to the Government and that, despite their long-standing possession and enjoyment, patta has not been transferred to their names. He further submits that the absence of patta has deprived them of access to various agricultural benefits extended by the Government.
3. The petitioner further submits that, despite approaching the official respondents seeking issuance of patta in his name and in the names of his

siblings, no effective action has been taken. He has therefore submitted a representation dated 15.07.2026 seeking appropriate relief in respect of the subject lands.
4. The learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents submits that no patta stands in the name of the petitioner in respect of the lands in question. However, it is submitted that the patta in respect of the subject lands comprised in Survey Nos. 549/2 and 549/3 stands registered in the names of third parties.
5. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents and perused the materials available on record.
6. Considering the submissions made on either side, this Court is of the view that the petitioner's representation dated 15.07.2026 requires consideration by the competent authority. Since the petitioner claims long-standing possession and enjoyment of the subject lands, the respondents are required to examine the relevant revenue records and consider the petitioner's claim in accordance with law. The submission made by the learned Additional Government Pleader regarding the existing patta in the name of a third party shall also be taken into consideration while deciding the representation.

8. It is made clear that this Court has not expressed any opinion on the merits of the rival claims or the petitioner's entitlement to patta. The first respondent shall independently consider the matter and pass appropriate orders in accordance with law.
