HON’BLE SMT. JUSTICE KONGARA VIJAYA LAKSHMI Writ Petition NO.25246 OF 2020

Order:

This Writ Petition is filed to direct the respondents to provide her admission in any branches of polytechnic course either in the fourth respondent Institution or in any other Government Women Polytechnic College.

The case of the petitioner is that she completed 10[th] class in the current year 2020 and a certificate to that effect is also issued by the Board of Secondary Education, Andhra Pradesh; the first respondent conducted Polycet Entrance Examination in the month of October 2020 for admission into Polytechnic Course; as the seats were not filled up due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Government directed to conduct spot admissions with the candidates who passed 10[th] class though they did not appear for Polycet Entrance Examination; a paper statement to that effect was also issued that the spot admissions will be held on 10.12.2020, but in spite of the same, there are still some more vacancies left in the fourth respondent College and in other Government Women Polytechnic Colleges in the State; as the petitioner’s mother is a maid servant, she did not have access to the newspapers and hence missed the information with regard to spot admissions; as some more seats are left vacant, the petitioner seeks for a direction to the respondents to admit her in any branch of Polytechnic course either in the fourth respondent College or in any other Government Women Polytechnic College.

When the matter is taken up for admission, learned Government Pleader appearing for the respondents submits that the spot admissions were conducted on 10.12.2020 and classes were also commenced from 14.12.2020 and as the cut off date for admissions is over the petitioner cannot be granted admission in any of the Colleges.

Learned counsel for the petitioner Sri B. Jaya Prabhakara Rao does not dispute the fact that the last date for admissions is already over.

As the cut off dates are fixed for admissions into colleges, the said cut off dates have to be adhered to, otherwise, the admissions have to be made throughout the year. In view of the facts and circumstances of the case, this Court can only sympathize the case of the petitioner, but a direction as sought for by the petitioner cannot be issued, as the cut off date for admissions is already over and the classes were commenced.

Accordingly, the Writ Petition is dismissed. There shall be no order as to costs.

As a sequel thereto, the miscellaneous petitions, if any, pending in this Writ Petition shall stand closed.

Date: 31[st] December 2020.
